The procedure

Victoria implant procedures, what each visit involves

Most anxiety comes from not knowing what implant procedures involve. These pages walk through the consultation, the imaging, the surgery itself, the sedation choices and the recovery, so nothing on the day is a surprise.

  • Every stage explained before it happens
  • Guided surgery from the scan
  • Sedation available if you want it

Planned first

Surgery is the short part of implant procedures

Of all the implant procedures, placing a single post is the quickest, usually under an hour. Everything that decides whether it lasts happens before that: measuring bone on the scan, choosing the position and angle, checking the nerve and sinus are clear, and working out where the finished tooth needs to sit in your bite. Guided surgery turns that plan into a physical guide that fits over the teeth.

The stages run in order. It starts at the Implant Consultation, moves to CBCT Imaging to map the bone, then to Guided Implant Surgery for the placement itself.

Comfort is a separate decision from the surgery. Sedation Options covers what is available if the appointment itself is the part you dread, and it does not change the treatment plan in any way.

How it works

What each implant procedure involves, stage by stage

  1. Consultation

Examination, medical history and a look at the site. We talk through whether an implant is the right treatment before anything else.

  2. Imaging and planning

A CBCT scan maps bone, nerve and sinus in three dimensions. The implant position is planned on that scan, not estimated in the chair.

  3. Placement

Local anaesthetic, sedation if you have chosen it, and a guide that sets the position. Most single cases are done inside an hour.

  4. Review and restore

We check healing at intervals, then take the impression for the final tooth once the bone has fused to the post.

Common questions

Victoria implant procedure questions, answered

Time in the chair, anaesthetic, driving home and time off work.

Usually forty five minutes to an hour for the placement itself, plus time either side for anaesthetic and aftercare instructions. Multiple implants or a graft at the same visit take longer. We give you a realistic appointment length when booking rather than a best case one.
Yes, unless you choose sedation. The site is fully numbed with local anaesthetic, which blocks sharp sensation rather than touch, so you feel pressure and movement. Many people listen to something through headphones. If being awake is the part that worries you, sedation options are worth discussing at the consultation.
After local anaesthetic alone, yes. After any form of sedation, no, and you will need someone to take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. We confirm this when the appointment is booked so it is not a problem on the morning.
Most people go back the next day after a single placement, though a desk job is easier than heavy physical work. Expect swelling to peak around day two or three. For multiple implants or a graft, allow two or three days. We will give you a realistic answer for your specific case.
A custom template made from your scan that fits over the teeth or gum and sets exactly where and at what angle the post is drilled. It turns the plan made on the computer into the plan carried out in the mouth, which matters most where the nerve or sinus is close.

I avoided dentists for years. Chose sedation and genuinely do not remember the appointment. That is the only reason it got done.

Came in for the scan and a plan rather than a sales appointment. That is what I got.

Turned up expecting an ordeal. The longest part of the morning was the paperwork.
