Full arch · Both jaws

Victoria full mouth dental implants, both jaws as one bite

Full mouth dental implants are not two separate cases run back to back. The two arches have to meet each other, so the bite is designed once, across both, before either is finished. That is the main reason doing them together works better than doing them apart.

  • Both arches designed as one bite
  • Shared planning and laboratory work
  • One surgical episode where possible

One bite

Victoria full mouth implants make two arches meet

When only one jaw is restored, the new arch has to work against whatever the opposing jaw already does, worn teeth, drifted teeth and all. With full mouth dental implants that constraint disappears: the bite height, the tooth positions and the way the arches meet can all be set deliberately. It is the one genuine advantage of doing both.

Each jaw still gets its own protocol. One might be an All-on-4 Implants case while the other has bone for All-on-6 Implants. The scan decides each independently even though the bite is planned jointly.

Because so much of the planning and laboratory work overlaps, two arches cost more than one but meaningfully less than two separate courses. That arithmetic is set out on Full Mouth Cost.

How it works

Full mouth dental implants, restored in four stages

  1. Assess the whole mouth

Both jaws scanned, remaining teeth assessed, and the bite height you will end up with decided before surgery.

  2. One surgical episode

Where health allows, both arches are treated in a single session with sedation rather than split across two recoveries.

  3. Temporary bite

Temporary arches let you eat softly and let us confirm the bite height is comfortable before it is made permanent.

  4. Final arches together

Both permanent bridges are made and fitted as a pair, then balanced against each other over one or two reviews.

Doing it in stages

One jaw now, the other later

Staging full mouth implants across two courses is common and fine, but the sequencing matters. Restoring the lower first and the upper later means the upper has to be built to meet a bite that is already fixed. We plan the eventual second arch even if it is years away, so the first does not close off options.

If the second arch never happens, the first still has to work against natural or denture teeth. That is the case to discuss honestly at the Implant Consultation, alongside what a removable option like an Implant Overdenture would mean for the opposing jaw and how Implant Financing could bring both forward.

Common questions

Victoria full mouth dental implant questions, answered

Doing both at once, recovery, cost and staging.

For most healthy patients, yes, and it means one recovery instead of two. It is a longer appointment and sedation is usually chosen. Where medical history, age or the complexity of the case argues against it, we split the surgery rather than push on.
No. More than one arch, clearly, but well short of double, because the consultation, planning, scanning and much of the laboratory work cover both. The saving is real but it is not the main reason to do both; the bite design is.
The first few days are more demanding than a single arch, with swelling on both sides. Most people are back to normal activity within a week and on soft food for several weeks while the posts integrate, the same as any full arch case.
Yes, and it is a sensible compromise on cost. A fixed lower with a removable upper is a common pairing. What matters is that both are planned together so the bite works, rather than deciding the second one two years later in isolation.
It can, usually for the better, because long term tooth loss shortens the distance between nose and chin. Restoring both arches lets that height be set deliberately. We discuss what you want here at planning, because it is far easier to agree beforehand than to adjust afterwards.

Fixed on the bottom, clip-in on top for cost. Works well and they planned both together.

They restored some height I had lost over the years. Discussed it before rather than surprising me.
